On the eighth-grade trip, two types of food are provided for students. While on the trail, students eat light-weight and nutritious food such as oatmeal, sandwiches, trail snacks and freeze-dried dinners. Students prepare all of their meals and practice wilderness cleaning and sanitary practices. At Basecamp, students will eat more traditional meals with fresh food available.
On the trail, all food is carried and stored in bear-proof containers. Drinking water is filtered and purified to ensure safe and clean water.
Through the years, we have encountered many students with allergies to nuts, fruits, gluten and lactose or who have dietary restrictions such as vegetarian or vegan. Every item on the menu has a replacement option to accommodate those dietary restrictions. Please contact the eighth-grade team if your child has specific or unique dietary restrictions and we can walk through the menu with you to make sure your child will be taken care of during the trip.
