All rafting equipment (rafts, paddles, PFDs, rigging), cooking gear, and food will be provided by AMS. Students are responsible for personal gear and if your child will be going on this trip, you will receive a packing list with all of the required items. Please look at it carefully, as years of experience have shaped this list. Due to space limitations on the rafts, please have students bring only those items on the list. Students will pack their clothing and gear into dry bags to ensure that clothing and tents stay dry.
The students will be camping in tents with two to four other students. We may ask families to offer their tents for this purpose. While we know that students will be using this gear for several years, we also know that it can be expensive. There are many students in the community that borrow and share equipment, some of the local mountaineering shops provide rentals of tents and sleeping bags, and we are able to provide some items. Please check with the staff if you have questions.
All of our cooking and cleaning will take place at the campsites along the river and we carry “kitchens” which are coolers packed with cooking gear, utensils, and all of the food.
